This is, actually, not what I want, to be here in English Letters Department as a student to study. It is not what I have expected. Actually, I want to study in a medical school. My dream is going to be a doctor, a surgeon.
At the first, I feel uncomfortable to be here, in this faculty, in this department. I keep thinking, what learning English is for. I still can learn English if I study in a medical school. Moreover, I have learned English since I was in my elementary school. Twelve years studying it is more than enough I think.
But then, after some months, I found it is different. I realized that I was wrong, thinking like that. Studying English is not that easy. But still I feel uneasy here. I need something more to make my English skills better than before. I need to improve my skills such as reading, writing, listening, and of course speaking.
I need more practice. That exactly is it. Lacking of practice is always a big problem for us as a student of English Letters Department. I think we should use English when we speak to each other. It does not have to be every second. Make it at least you have to speak English when you are in the class. Or you have to speak English when you are in the faculty building. You do not have to care about the grammar. Just keep trying, keep practicing, keep speaking as far as you can. Ask your friend to correct you when you make a mistake.
Furthermore, for practicing your grammar, you can try it when you texted your friends. Use English when you texted them.
This might sounds funny but I am sure that will bring us a big impact. Who knows it can make us suddenly fluent in English in only a short time, right?
And also, I want English Letters Department to hire a native speaker as a lecturer. He can teach us to speak English in a good, right way. How to pronounce the words, which word is use to speak formally or informally, are some things we can learn from the native speaker. Also we can practice our listening. It is directly from the native speaker, not from the tape recorder.
This is certainly the best way to do in order to get our English skills better. This is what I hope for English Letters Department to do in the future.
